Five Star Chair Caning

Much like many kids get interested in their own hobby, I got started in chair caning by watching my Mom & Dad. Back then, most of my chairs at home were caned, and with four active children in the house there was always one to be fixed.  Being pretty good with my hands and thinking back to my parents’ chair work, the interest stayed with me. I went to night school to learn how to cane. (Yes, they did have night school for chair caning believe it or not.) As the years passed I learned how to do other forms of seat replacement, such as rush, various types of flat reed weaving, shaker tape weaving, and drop-in upholstery seats. I also started doing furniture refinishing.  Every project has its differences and I learn more every day.   I am lucky to turn something I love to do into a small business.
